A SCULPTURE in memory of a Red Arrows pilot is being removed today after a landslip left it inaccessible.

The Jon Egging sculpture is being moved to a position adjacent to the top of the East Cliff Zig-Zag, slightly further west from its current position on East Cliff Overdrive.

It will be relocated in two weeks' time.

Alongside it will also be a relocated Spitfire pilot memorial plaque.

The sculpture has been inaccessible since the major cliff landslip in May 2016. Both the council and Flt Lt Egging’s family were keen for it to be relocated to a place where the public can access it again.

Newly proposed landscaping for the memorials will differ from the current rockery and instead will feature a low cairn in Purbeck stone, to further elevate the sculpture.

The memorials have been moved in time for the Bournemouth Air Festival at the end of August.
