POOLE Speedway hall of famers Tony Rickardsson and Mark Loram are set to make a shock return to the shale – when they ride at the club's 70th anniversary meeting.

The legendary duo have agreed to don Kevlars once more on what promises to be a memorable night at Wimborne Road on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Rickardsson is a six-time world title winner, while Loram was the first global champion to represent Pirates.

And Poole chief Matt Ford is delighted to have secured the services of two of the club's favourite sons.

He told the Daily Echo: "It's going to be so exciting to have two absolute legends with us and both will be taking to the track again.

"At this point in time, there is no decision as to whether these will be races or demonstration rides so we will wait and see.

"It is very special that two of the biggest names in Poole's history have agreed to celebrate with the club on its platinum anniversary.

"Both guys will also be there for a gala dinner as well, which we are going to hold on the same weekend.

"We're hoping to announce a very competitive field for the meeting and names will be revealed in due course."
