REPAIRS to a shared space scheme in Bournemouth town centre are complete, but there is no update on the cause of the problem.

Earlier this month the council said its investigation into the failure of paving blocks at the Horseshoe Common shared space in Old Christchurch Road would conclude once work had finished.

Then, service director Larry Austin said: "Once these works are completed we will consider the evidence and report our findings."

However, although the work finished on July 11, the authority says there is still no update from the inquiry.

Mr Austin said: "We continue to discuss with our contractor and design consultant about the remedial works at Horseshoe Common and once completed we will report our finding.

"As these discussions and considerations involve contractual arrangements, we are unfortunately not in a position to provide an update but will do so as soon as possible."

The £121,000 works were launched with a claim by the council that an increase in the number of buses using the junction had led to the failure of the surface. This was later dropped and the authority said it was investigating whether the materials, workmanship or "specification" of the initial work three years ago was to blame.
