A NEW supermarket has created 40 jobs.

A Lidl store is set to open on Wendall Road in Blandford on July 27.

Mayor of Blandford, Cllr Peter Clark, will attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8am.

A spokesman for Lidl said the new supermarket forms part of the company’s ongoing expansion and regeneration plans in the UK, which will mean increasing the number of stores from 670 to 1,500.

The Blandford store is 1690m² and has created up to 40 new jobs. It has state-of-the-art facilities including an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing, customer toilets, baby changing and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Lidl UK’s regional head of property James Mitchell said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Blandford. It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”
