THE first traders have been announced for the planned Lansdowne street market.
The Metropole Market and Vintage Street Fair, supported by the Town Centre BID, is due to kick off on September 24, running on the last Sunday each month, and is intended to draw people to the Lansdowne area.
Locally-based traders confirmed so far include Dark Matters vegan hand-made brownies, Ages Apparel clothing and accessories inspired by Africa, Jackie Robinson’s Vintage Clothing and the House Grille wood-fired barbecue served from a vintage van.
The market, held in Holdenhurst Road, will also host a free ping pong tournament, run by Sharkey's Sports Bar. The longest rally of the day will win a 12-month pass to the bar for two.
Owner Rod Cake said: "There is a palpable buzz building about Metropole Market and we are thrilled to be a part of this new exciting attraction."
Market co-organiser Lyn Turnbull said: "We’re delighted at the response we are getting from local artisans and businesses.
"There’s such a wide range of traders, exciting, imaginative, something truly different. And we still want more.”
The road will be closed during the event.
