A WOMAN was rescued from a cliff in Bournemouth in the early hours of this morning.

Coastguard and the fire service were called to the cliff at East Overcliff Drive around 2.30am to reports that a woman had fallen over the cliff.

Fire crews from Springbourne and Westbourne, an aerial ladder platform (ALP) from Westbourne and a technical rescue team from Poole attended the scene.

A statement from Poole Coastguard said: "The fire service set up their cliff kit and sent a tech over to locate and secure the casualty ready for extraction.

"The casualty was located and made ready for extraction back to the top, but a decision was made to lower the casualty to the promenade as it was closer and where the ambulance was waiting."

According to a Coastguard spokesman the woman had not suffered any serious injuries.
