A DALEK was seen roaming around Boscombe town centre.

One of Doctor Who's greatest enemies was outside the Tardis in Boscombe, promoting the Sopley Village Fete.

The Dalek can move around and speak and was heard encouraging members of the public to go along to the fete and donate - or be exterminated.

The Dalek has a voice synthesiser and can connect to mobile phones through bluetooth, so the organisers can use it to relay any message they would like.

A now retired teacher from Highcliffe School built the Dalek from scratch and now loans it out.

Crowds of up to 50 people watched on as the 'cuddly Dalek' was admired by passers by and children.

It will be in place to welcome guests at the fete on July 15.

On the Dalek, Village Hall Committee member, Philip Emmel, said: "It was great. The kids loved it. There was quite a crowd, the school kids were bemused!"

The Sopley Village Fete raises money for the local village hall, which is in need of donations to complete its renovation work.

The hall is entering phase three of the project and all the money raised will be used to try and complete it.

This will be the 14th year of the fete, which has grown from being initially just a garden tea party with 120 guests.

Now, over 1000 people are anticipated to attend the event which will run throughout the day and evening.

Up to 30 local volunteers get the fete up and running.

The day is a fun, family event celebrating country life. Three areas provide an event and stall field, kidzone play area and live music lawn.
