THE Jurassic Coast has officially been crowned the most photogenic location in Dorset, according to data from the popular photo app Instagram.

In the past six months, 1,440 photos have been posted on the social media site from the Jurassic Coast, proving that the world heritage site is the most popular tagged GPS location in the county.

Along the world-famous coastline, the natural limestone arch of Durdle Door stole the limelight with 1,212 snapshots taken at the landmark.

Just a stone’s throw away, Lulworth Cove came in second with 527 photos, followed by the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle with 253 pictures.

Old Harry Rocks, the most easterly point of coastline, followed shortly behind with 234.

Sally King, the Jurassic Coast visitor and tourism manager, said: “The Jurassic Coast is so photogenic because of its outstanding landforms, with everything from cosy coves to towering cliffs, as well as sea stacks and beautiful beaches.

“It really is a photographers’ dream. These landforms, and the rocks and fossils, are the reason why the area is England’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“We always encourage people to stay safe when they are out and about on the coast and remember to stay away from the cliffs – they are constantly eroding and rockfalls and landslips can happen any time.”
