TEN tonnes of pig swill spilled onto the A354 at Winterborne Whitechurch on Monday night.
Police were called to the A354 shortly after midnight where liquid pig food had leaked from a lorry and spread across the road.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said the 'non-hazardous food waste' was believed to have fermented inside the container which caused it to spill from the vehicle.
Police handed over to the local authority at 4.30am on Tuesday morning.
Martin Hill, network operations manager for Dorset County Council, said: “The spill was dealt with by our out-of-hours team. The road remained open throughout through joint working with the police. The truck and around 10 tonnes of swill were moved from the highway and into a lay-by.”
The rest of the food is expected to be cleared away later today.
