FIFTY years on, do you have memories to share of the year that defined the 1960s?

The year 1967 came to be synonymous with the term Summer of Love, as dramatic changes in culture, entertainment and fashion rocked the world.

It was the year music was changed by the Beatles’ album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and the Monterey Pop Festival. Films like The Graduate and Bonnie and Clyde were unlike anything seen before. Clothes looked very different, while liberalised social attitudes changed Britain.

Locally – as Jon Kremer recalls in his book Bournemouth A Go! Go! – you might have seen Pink Floyd or Jimi Hendrix at Bournemouth’s Winter Gardens. Meanwhile, Al Stewart, a young singer-songwriter from Wimborne, released his first LP, Bedsitter Images.

Do you have photos of 1967 to share – whether of yourself or the local sights?

Do you have memories from the era – the music, the places you went, or the way the world was changing? (It may be that revolution wasn’t in the air for you. After all, Engelbert Humperdinck’s Release Me kept the Beatles off the number one spot.)
