DOZENS of homes, a new football ground and a skate park could be built in Wimborne if developers are given the green light at a meeting this morning.

The scheme would see the relocation of Wimborne Town FC from Cowgrove Road to land south of Parmiter Drive.

In addition, 66 houses and 15 flats, a 'teenage activity area', 50 allotments and a suitable alternative natural greenspace (SANG) would be created at the site.

The plans are due to go before East Dorset District Council's planning committee today.

They are recommended for approval.

As part of the scheme, two football pitches, including a training pitch, would be created, as well as areas for standing and up to 35o seats.

Changing rooms, conference and function facilities, a shop, a kitchen and a meeting room would also be built.

Flood lights measuring around 15.5 metres tall would be put in place, and space for 200 cars and four coaches would be created.

Developers also hope to build an activity area to the south-east of the football ground. The area would include a skate park.

Allotments would lie to the south of the pitch and a SANG would connect proposed public open spaces at the south-eastern and southern part of the site.

In total, 18 letters of objection have been submitted to the council.

Representatives from Wimborne Town Council, Wessex Water, the Campaign to Protect Rural England and the East Dorset Environmental Partnership have also objected to the scheme.

Bosses at the water company say the new homes are too close to their sewage treatment facility and raised concerns that residents will complain of odour and flies.

However, the authors of a report submitted to East Dorset councillors concluded that the facility will not cause "ant significant adverse impacts".

Further concerns were raised over the proximity of the planned training pitch to aerospace company Cobham.

Developers say they have plans to build a 2.5 metre tall chain link fence topped with barbed wire to separate the site from a munitions store within the company's grounds.

Bosses at Cobham have also requested netting to prevent footballs from the training pitch being kicked onto their site, which has been agreed by developers should the proposals go ahead.
