A DISQUALIFIED driver crashed into other vehicles in Bournemouth while trying to escape from police.

Liam Ulla, 23, left Halo nightclub in Exeter Road at around 2.45pm on November 5 last year and got into an Audi A5, Bournemouth Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Kerry Maylin said a passing police car spotted the vehicle, and aware that Mr Ulla was disqualified from driving officers illuminated their lights and signalled for him to stop.

"The vehicle then pulled away out of their view. They drove along the route they believed it had taken and arrived at a road traffic collision on West Cliff Road," she said.

"What they then found was Mr Ulla's Audi facing into the wall of No. 50 with severe front end damage."

The court heard four vehicles were involved in the crash. One, a Renault Clio driven by Thomas Robley, was badly damaged, and Mr Robley was injured.

"He was injured when his vehicle was hit with such force the car became wedged between a lamp post and the same wall," said Ms Maylin.

Mr Robley, who received head injuries, told police he had spotted the Audi in his mirror approaching so fast he could not react.

Ulla, of Branksome Wood Road, Bournemouth, fled on foot but detectives found his saliva on the Audi's airbag, the court heard.

He had been disqualified for 18 months for drink driving.

Ulla admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop and driving while disqualified.

In mitigation, Richard Middleton said his client was "remorseful" and was "running four successful small businesses locally", and that a lengthy driving ban would affect his businesses and his 10 or so employees.

"He knows he has done wrong, he would do anything to turn the clock back if he could," he said.

Judge Peter Johnson issued a six month jail term. Ulla was also banned from the road for three years.
