THE texting driver of a 44-tonne HGV is just one of the motorists dealt with by Dorset Police in the first week of June.

Officers spotted the lorry driver with his phone in his hand as he travelled along Canford Way in Poole.

When stopped, he said: "I'm really sorry, I should know better.

"I watch all these horrific HGV crashes on the internet and now I've been caught - I feel embarrassed."

The Traffic Commissioner will be informed by police and the driver was given six points and a £200 fine.

The following day, 15 van drivers were dealt with for speeding, with two vehicles seized for having no insurance.

A further three drivers were caught driving while using their mobile phone and one was pulled over for careless driving.

On June 3, two vehicles with no insurance were taken off the road. One driver, who had borrowed his mum's car, was also stopped for speeding.

The second driver had previously lost their licence and only recently passed the driving test again. The driver's licence was suspended for a second time because there was no insurance on the car.

Later that day, officers pulled over the driver of a speeding car on the Dorset Way. The driver tested positive for cannabis with a roadside test and was arrested.

On Saturday night, a vehicle was stopped at the Ashley Heath roundabout by police after ANPR cameras flagged up the registration plate.

When the car was pulled over, there was a strong smell of cannabis and the driver failed a roadside test for cocaine and cannabis.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a "large amount" of money and drugs inside.

The driver was then arrested on suspicion of drug driving, possession of drugs and money laundering. The investigation continues.

Another man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving on Sunday night.

Police called to report of a domestic incident in Boscombe were told a man had left the scene in a vehicle.

The vehicle was seen by CCTV operators and members of the public being driven erratically.

Officers found the driver trying to fight passers-by and he was arrested for public order offences. A roadside drug test also returned a positive for cocaine and cannabis.
