TOM Green could possibly be the nicest man in comedy.

Whereas so many comics make a living by courting controversy, Canadian-born Tom is a great believer in inclusivity. His recent trip to Israel is a good case in point.

“There are a lot of aggressive atheists out there,” he says. “They got really angry because I posted a picture of the birthplace of Jesus on Instagram and I’m like - hey I’m interested in this from an historical perspective too.

“I grew up going to Sunday school. Although I’m not somebody who goes to church every Sunday, I’m not a non believer.

“I like to keep my mind open and I accept that there are a lot of things I don’t understand.

“It’s an easy thing to attack - I like to keep an open mind and am very inclusive in my comedy.

“I don’t like bashing anybody for their beliefs or for being part of a group - that’s why I’m taking issue with my old boss, the current US president!”

Tom took part in the US version of Celebrity Apprentice and was fired by Donald Trump.

“I would almost be happy for my old boss, if it wasn’t for all the horrible things he said about Muslims and Mexicans and building walls. “If you start excluding people based on their beliefs or any group they choose to belong too - it doesn’t take long before the group you’re in suddenly starts being bashed by society. All of a sudden they don’t like goofy white Canadians!”

But Tom wasn’t surprised that Trump won the presidency.

“I understand how the media works. If you say something outrageous, it’s going to capture people’s attention and spread quickly - I kind of predicted he would win the presidency quite early on.”

Tom who has English and Irish roots, says he’s excited to be touring the UK and Ireland as he hasn’t been outside of London in England before.

“On my first visit to the UK I came to the royal premiere of Charlie’s Angels and we had dinner with Prince Charles at St James’s Palace. It it was very posh. I was in a tuxedo sitting next to Camilla Parker-Bowles for two hours!”

Tom shot to fame via his unpredictable The Tom Green Show and was described as “the funniest, most daring personality on MTV”, and the show became the one to watch in the 2000’s.

He also found fame in Hollywood for starring roles in films such as Road Trip and Charlie’s Angels.

He says he hopes his stand up show will appeal to fans of his old material as well as to people who have never heard of him before.

Tom who was married for a short time to Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore, says he doesn’t rule out trying the knot again some day.

“I have a real nice girlfriend who will join me for most of my UK tour, but whatever happens, I won’t stop doing stand up. I just love it - I’m having a blast!”
