A NURSING home lambasted for 'failing to treat people with respect and dignity' has now received a glowing inspection report.

Less than two years since the Care Quality Commission issued a damning report into Highcliffe Nursing Home, a new report has rated the service good in every category.

A specialist dementia facility, the home in Stuart Road was ordered to improve in all areas following the inspection in May 2015.

The report highlighted how one frail and elderly resident was left in agony with a suspected broken hip for more than 13 hours before being taken to hospital.

The latest CQC report has found the service to be safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Home manager Tracey Millar said: “This is a tribute to the dedication and enthusiasm of all my staff who have worked really hard to completely turn around the fortunes of the home after a difficult period a couple of years ago.

“We are passionate about providing the highest quality care and are delighted this has been recognised by the inspector.”

The inspector reports that one resident told her: “You always have someone around you can call for help. You only need to ask them and they will try their best to help you.”

In the report, it states: "People and their families consistently described the staff as caring and felt they genuinely had an interest in their wellbeing.

"Care was provided professionally, with kindness and good humour.

It added: "The service was well led. People, their families, and staff all spoke positively about the service.

"There was an open and positive culture that empowered staff to feel included in the quality of the service."

The report describes how the home’s caring culture extends to taking the time and trouble to put on really imaginative events, such as decorating the garden with lights and hiring a snow machine to create a White Christmas experience.

Staff said there was an open culture where they were supported but were able to talk freely and share ideas.
