A MAN has died after falling from the top of the Bournemouth International Centre car park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Police were called to the scene at 6.54am following reports of concern for a man's welfare who was seen standing at the top of the building.

A police spokesman said the man fell from the building and was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Dorset Police say his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

There were road closures in place on the service road leading to the BIC from the roundabout at the bottom of Priory Road junction with Exeter Road. This was to allow the emergency services to deal with the situation.

The roads were re-opened around lunchtime.

Hotel workers nearby said they saw people running along the street shouting around 7am, then saw a police car arrive on the scene.

Within minutes there were more emergency service vehicles and police had cordoned off the area.

Steve Turner, general manager at the BIC, said: "We are very saddened to learn that the gentleman has passed away and our condolences are with his family and friends.

"We thank the police for their support in attending and will assist the relevant authorities with any inquiries.

"The car park at Bournemouth International Centre has now reopened."
