NEIL Middleditch insisted it had been vital for promoter Matt Ford to take decisive action over his Pirates number one ahead of a busy period in the calendar.

Poole face the prospect of four SGB Premiership meetings in 12 days, starting with tonight's trip to leaders Wolverhampton (6pm).

Grzegorz Zengota is set to make his debut in the skull and crossbones after joining on a short-term deal as cover for sidelined compatriot Krzysztof Kasprzak.

With former Grand Prix star Kasprzak not scheduled to return from his broken collarbone until June 21, Middleditch is pleased by the arrival of ex-Swindon and Coventry racer Zengota.

Team manager Middleditch told the Daily Echo: "He's a very capable rider. The thing with Matt is, he won't sit around and let the world pass him by, he takes action for the good of the club.

"Krzys will be out for another few weeks at least and when he comes back we don't know if he will be fully fit, so we had to look at our options.

"The break in meetings has given Krzys a chance to recuperate but we are back in action on Monday and we need someone in the team who will score points for us."

Wolverhampton are on a run of seven straight league victories and have been boosted by the recent signings of Rory Schlein and Mark Riss.

Middleditch added: "Schleiny has certainly hit the ground running. You look down the team and they just don't have a weak link, so it is going to be a really tough test.

"Dare I say it, if I were a neutral they would be my favourites for the title. They are a very dangerous side.

"We've got something from every away meeting so we will see how we go this time."
