FOOTAGE of the “dangerous” moment a teenager broke into a building site and climbed up a 100-foot crane has been posted on YouTube.

The unidentified boy, who says he is 13, can be seen scaling the structure in the video. Towards the end of the two-minute clip, he shows a view of Poole Harbour and sits down, dangling his legs over the edge.

Shortly before he begins the climb, he is seen easily gaining access to the site.

The crane is currently being used in the construction of development Vista, 50 assisted living apartments in Mount Road, Parkstone.

David Hines, CEO of Charminster-based developers Quantum Group, said: “We are saddened that there was a recent breach of security at our construction site in Mount Road, within the crane compound area.

“We are undertaking a full enquiry as to how an individual entered the site without supervision. The site is hoarded and gated and the crane is located within a further gated area.

“The site will continue to be monitored by cameras and in light of recent events we have already commissioned additional security.

“We take our health and safety responsibilities extremely seriously and have not had any previous incidents on this site. We hope to maintain our good relationship with the local residents to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

The site initially had planning consent for 14 apartments. Despite being located in a conservation area, developers spoke with residents and went on to be given planning consent for the additional apartments.

Many of the flats will have south-facing balconies overlooking Poole Harbour and Sandbanks.

Speaking at the construction site on Thursday, project manager Bob Plowman said much of the site is covered by high-quality CCTV cameras and more security will be brought in to stop similar incidents from taking place.

Sergeant Adrian Thompson, of Poole police, said: “I strongly discourage anyone from engaging in this activity or copying this individual.

“These acts are dangerous and could lead to serious injury. The majority of these activities involve trespassing on private land, and have involved criminal damage to enter the site and we look to deal robustly with any such offences.”

He said the teen could be issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order.

“If you see any persons climbing urban structures and putting themselves and others at risk please let us know,” he said.
