PLANS to demolish homes and a Labour Club to build flats have been reviewed after complaints from residents.

Lauder Properties and Dorset Homes Ltd proposed to build a nine-storey block of 50 flats at Wimborne Road in Poole with access from Denmark Road.

If approved the development would be just yards from the ongoing Keel House project and Barclays House - also nine storeys tall.

But new proposals have now been submitted for a seven-storey building following a meeting with officers from Borough of Poole and residents' remarks.

The block - which also comes with 28 car-parking spaces and room for bicycles - will contain 10 studio flats, 21 one-bedroom flats and 19 two-bedroom flats.

Will Taylor, of Lauder Property Limited, said: "The planning application has been amended in response to comments from both local residents and the local planning authority."

So far, nine objections have been made to the revised application.

The previous application attracted more than 30 objections, along with a petition signed by 123 residents.

One of them said: "I do not want a seven-storey monstrosity overlooking my house and garden."

Another added: "Reducing the building to seven storeys does not make it anymore acceptable. It will now be wider, still consist of 50 flats and still have the problem of parking spill over into surrounding streets.

"I am concerned this would cause problems for access by emergency vehicles especially at night. I therefore strongly object to this revised application."

Fellow resident Alex Fitzpatrick said: "What still has not nor does it seem to want to be addressed is the effect of the increase in traffic and suitable parking this venture will result in.

"The new Keel House building and this proposal will present a huge increase in both traffic volume and parking issues to this tiny enclave of Heckford Park.

"There is already a shortage of available parking for residents as much of the area is double yellow and one-way traffic resulting in difficult access. "God help us if we had a major fire here as most appliances would not be able to navigate the parking problems we already have."

The site is currently occupied by a pair of semi-detached homes, a storage unit belonging to the Labour Club, a detached garage, a car park for 20 vehicles and advertising hoarding.

It is not clear when the revised proposal will be decided by Borough of Poole.
