TIM Brown insisted his Swanage Town & Herston troops had earned their Dorset Premier League Cup triumph due to their hard graft throughout the campaign.

Two late goals from striker Graeme Rose sealed a 2-0 victory over Gillingham Town reserves at Weymouth's Bob Lucas Stadium.

Boss Brown said: "It's always nice to win a trophy. The boys have worked so hard this season and they definitely deserve it.

"It's the first time myself, Brian Churchill and Tony Parrott have won something as a management team and it hasn't really sunk in yet."

Swans had lost their semi-final against Holt United but were granted a reprieve after the latter side were found to have fielded an ineligible player and their appeal failed.

The final was locked at 0-0 until the 81st minute when, after initially striking the post, Rose fired home the rebound from six yards.

Two minutes later, Paul Best's left-wing cross to the far post was controlled and tucked away by Rose, sealing victory.

The frontman said: "There were few chances in the first half and we were on top in the second but failed to create anything clear cut until late on.

"The first goal is key in a game like that where it is 0-0 for a long time. When we got the second, they realised it was game over.

"It was great for me to get a couple of goals and for the team to get the win. We haven't won anything for a long time so there were some celebrations in the changing room and they carried on late into the night for a couple of them."

Swans finished sixth in the Dorset Premier League in the season just gone, two places above Gillingham.
