BUILDING work is almost complete on a new £20million luxury retirement complex opposite Poole Park.

A total of 60 one and two-bedroom flats are being created by McCarthy and Stone for their Horizons assisted living platinum range development.

A handful of residents have already moved into the Parkstone Road complex - with more expected to arrive later this year.

The exterior of the building has just been finished and the apartments are expected to be finished by the summer.

Once completed, facilities for the residents will include a club lounge, rooftop terrace, landscaped gardens and a guest suite for friends and relatives to use.

There will also be a well-being suite and onsite restaurant, as well as 'domestic assistance packages' to help homeowners manage their day to day lives. In addition, there will be a dedicated estates manager at the development with security entrance systems and 24-hour emergency call points for people to use while they continue to live independently.

McCarthy and Stone architect Matthew Richardson said he wanted to create a building which reflected Poole’s heritage.

He added: "So we researched and drew inspiration from the best local and regional buildings from the interwar period.

"The white rendered finish and buildings clean elegant lines reflect some of the highest quality buildings found along the south coast, and complement its neighbouring buildings.

"Glass balconies and full height windows maximise space and light in the apartments, whilst ensuring all residents benefit from the spectacular views.”

The development has been designed exclusively for people aged 70 and over who want to live independently, but who can benefit from personal care packages which can be tailored to their individual needs, as well as round-the-clock support and domestic help if required.
