TALENTED jazz musicians from around the world will be swinging into town next month for the 2017 Jazz by the Sea Festival.

Previously known as The Bournemouth Jazz Festival, the popular event will include new venues around Bournemouth and Poole.

The festival opens on Sunday, June 11 with a family jazz concert at Lighthouse, Poole, hosted by BBC Radio 2’s Clare Teal with the Guy Barker Big Band and guests.

Highlights throughout the week include an evening of Blues and Boogie, in the Sherling Studio at Poole on Thursday, June 15 in collaboration with Jazz FM hosted and presented by David Freeman.

The evening will feature music from New Orleans, with well-known acoustic blues guitarist Mark Harrison and renowned boogie woogie pianist Dino Baptiste.

Joining the line-up will be one of the country’s leading blues singers Zoe Schwarz, along with her Blue Commotion Band.

Rounding off the week will be a World Jazz Jamboree also at Lighthouse on Saturday, June 17.

Opening the day’s series of concerts is the Italian saxophonist, Tommaso Starace and his quartet, who explore a melodic and cinematic approach to jazz music and Monica Vasconcelos, who introduces the wonderful lyrical compositions of the Brazilian Bossa Nova with her authentic South American band.

Dan Somogyi returns mid-afternoon with his Thokozile Collective - a highly talented South African jazz sextet featuring the reverberating rhythms and beats of the African continent.
