Poole's annual Mini Steam on the Quay event takes place on Poole Quay between 10am and 5pm on Saturday. The festival of miniature traction engines which is now in its eight year will see 30 machines taking part.  The event will include the chance to ride on the special engines.

The Poole Wheelers Youth Omnium takes place at Bournemouth Velodrome on Saturday. Youth riders from aged 8 to 16-years-old will be taking part in the event, which is free to watch, with the chance to see future stars in the making. Starts at 10am.

A Natterjack Toad Expedition is taking place at Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre on Saturday. Join the rangers for a dusk walk to go in search of their loud calls, and hopefully catch a glimpse of these fascinating creatures. It takes place from 8pm to 10pm. To book call 01202 451618.

A country fair will take place at High Mead Farm in Ham Lane on Saturday, May 13 from 10am until 4pm. Admission is £5 for adults and free for children.

A fun day and dog show featuring a barbecue, family activities and stalls takes place from 10.30am until 4pm on Sunday, May 14 at West Parley Memorial Hall in aid of Staffie and Stray Rescue.

Dorset County Council is holding free roadshows so people can find out more about fostering this weekend as part of Foster Care Fortnight. The Lions Club holds a car boot sale at Fawcetts Field, New Milton, on Sunday. Traders can set up from 6.30am and members of the public are welcome from 7am.

Enjoy bird songs and breakfast at Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre on Sunday. Learn the songs of resident and migrant birds on this annual walk, rounded off with cooked breakfast and hot drink at Hiker Café.
