THE Pedal Car Grand Prix is set to return to New Milton this summer.

The biennial pedal car event will be returning to the town for the seventh time on Sunday, July 9.

It is organised by the New Milton Jubilee Committee, a group comprising the Round Table, Lions and Rotary clubs.

The popular event usually draws in crowds of thousands who enjoy the quirky challenge as drivers battle for pole position around hairpin bends.

Members of the committee aim to provide a fun and entertaining event while supporting local youth and charity organisations.

In parallel to this event, on alternate years, is the biennial Ringwood pedal car race.

Every time these events are held thousands of pounds are raised for charity.

So far the money raised has paid for an automatic electronic defibrillator which will be installed in Pedlars Walk in Ringwood.

A total of £800 has been donated to the Wildlife Rescue Charity and £1,000 to the cancer centre at the Southern Trust.

Local Scout and TA groups have also benefited from the events.

Race director Conrad Curtis told the Echo that the race appeals to those of all ages.

"Lots of youngsters take part alongside the adults," he said.

"It's very inclusive, and it's really about having fun."

Taking the top spot in 2015 was the men's team from New Forest Health and Leisure, with members of the Christchurch Bicycle Club in second and women's team Squeals on Wheels taking the bronze medal.

In the youth category, a team from Ballard School came out on top.

The event attracts all members from the local community including firefighters and police officers.
