POOLE council has received nearly half-a-million pounds in Government funding to resurface three roads around the town centre.

The £475,000 of funding from the Department for Transport’s National Productivity Investment Fund will be used to deliver three high priority maintenance schemes at Wimborne Road, Sandbanks Road and Fernside Road.

According to the council this is preventative maintenance and is being undertaken to renew the surfaces before they get to a condition that would require full depth reconstruction.

The funding will be split between the three schemes with £295,000 being used on Wimborne Road, from the New Inn to George Roundabout, £113,00 on Sandbanks Road, from Park Road to Clarence Road, and £67,000 on Fernside Road, from Shah of Persia to the Civic Centre.

The council says it is taking the opportunity to do the Fernside Road scheme whilst Southern Gas Networks have closed the section of highway for major gas main works to minimise disruption to the public.

The schemes will be delivered over the course of the next year along with programmed highways structural maintenance schemes in Longfleet Road and Ringwood Road.
