A BOURNEMOUTH councillor has again criticised the authority’s use of a toxic weed killer which has been banned in other countries.

Green councillor Simon Bull called on the borough to stop using glyphosate - urging it to find alternatives that may be more expensive.

It comes after resident Jo Milligan photographed glyphosate being sprayed in Winton Recreation Ground last week.

Cllr Bull said the council had “reassured him that it tries to limit the amount used” but he said more had to be done.

Glyphosate is still used in more than 100 countries across the world, but it was banned in the Netherlands in 2014.

The council is entitled to use the weed killer and Cllr Michael Filer, cabinet member for cleansing and waste, had said he has been given assurances by council officers that the chemical was safe to use.
