AN elderly woman remains in hospital after a crash with a car in Southbourne.

Dorset Police were called to the crash in Belle Vue Road just before 6.30pm on Thursday, by the ambulance service.

It was reported that an elderly female pedestrian and a blue Ford Focus Zetec, registered to a Bournemouth man, had collided on the road near the bus stop near the junction with Southbourne Overcliff Drive.

The pedestrian, a Bournemouth woman in her 70s, was seriously injured as a result of the incident and remains in hospital.

Her injuries are not life threatening.

Road closures were put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the traffic unit, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident and has not already spoken to police to please contact us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience whilst the road closures were in place to allow the emergency services to do their work.”

A Yellow Bus was at the scene when the incident happened, although it does not appear to have been involved.

As a result the bus had to abandon its service and passengers were asked to leave the vehicle.

Belle Vue Road was closed to motorists at the junctions with Burtley Road and St Catherine’s Road to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.
