Russell Brand was a huge, unpredictable bundle of fun when he performed at the Lighthouse in Poole.

Around 2,000 filed into the Concert Hall to see Russell turn the air blue for his Re:Birth tour, while talking about his new life as a long term boyfriend and a dad.

The show started with a showreel of clips of news headlines bearing his name, which is something that has become synonymous with Russell over the past decade or so.

Now, I have to be honest with you. I was not expecting to enjoy the show and give it a race review. He's a self-proclaimed narcissist, who has built himself a business around being a womaniser, an eccentric, a now-recovering drug user, and I have felt that he sometimes puts across his point like a steam roller.

But there's something honest about him and on this stage in Poole, he seemed to have grown up and out of his wild ways. Mostly. Now he can poke fun at some of his past exploits, which he did towards the end of the show.

He was able to stop and start two particular video clips featuring his Newsnight interview with Jeremy Paxman and another of him stood outside of 10 Downing Street during a plight to save a housing block in London.

Russell also talked about the birth of his first child, Mabel, and how it gave him a new perspective on life, starting from the moment that he first locked eyes with the baby.

His Re:Birth tour is evidently a way of encouraging the audience to see him as a different person than he was once was, and somebody who still has mad moments, but knows how to ration them out a bit more.

One of my favourite moments of the show was when he walked down into the audience to speak to some people about their embarrassing stories. The first funny thing was that he was using a microphone on a long cable, which meant as he flitted around the audience, hundreds of people had to move the cable over their heads.

The other funny part was the fact that he would literally sit on the person's lap as they told some of their wickedly naughty, rude or just plain toe-curling stories.

Russell Brand is one of those comedians who is so much better than he could ever be on TV. Anyone who buys tickets for his stand up comedy show is in for a treat.

He'll be performing at the Mayflower in Southampton on May 2, 2017, Portsmouth Guildhall on September 19, 2017, and at the BIC on March 27, 2018.
