SKIPPER Chris Park was happy to see glimpses of Sam Thomson’s form from last season during Dorset’s friendly victory over Wiltshire at North Perrott.

The off-spinner topped the wicket-taking charts for the Minor Counties side in 2016, claiming 36 scalps at an average of 19.44 across all formats.

Not only did Thomson pick up two for 29 against Wiltshire in the two-wicket win on Monday, he also helped his team recover with the bat, scoring 49 and being part of a stand of 102 with Luke Webb.

Park said: “Sam continued where he left off last year with a good performance with the ball, and also contributed with the bat.

“He was fantastic last year and Jigar (Naik, club professional) coming in doesn’t take any pressure off.

“Sam is a great off-spinner and, hopefully, he can have just as good a season as he did last year.”

Somerset leg-spinner Max Waller has been named in the squad for the MCCA Knockout Trophy trip to Devon on Sunday (11am).

Dorset: Arnold, Waller, Webb, Ellis, Naik, Porter, Thomson, Park, Wolstenholme, Currie, Barber. Twelfth man: Digby.
