KIND-HEARTED well-wishers have raised a staggering £21,000 for the children of a man killed in a car crash last month.

Popular father-of-two Kevin Peat died after the car he was driving collided with a tree and a lamppost in a 3am accident in Harewood Avenue in Bournemouth on Sunday March 5.

Just days later a Go Fund Me page was set up in a bid to provide for his sons, three-year-old Conor, and Liam, eight months.

It had an original target of £5,000, which was smashed within seven hours, and now stands at more than £21,000.

A fundraising football match and family fun day has also been organised in a bid to raise more money.

The cash will be held in trust for the boys until they are 18.

Kevin, a labourer, lived in Hurn Way in Christchurch with fiancee Megan Churchill and their two little boys.

He had three brothers, Carl, John and Dominic, and a sister, Francesca. His mum lives in Bournemouth and his dad in Portsmouth.

John 34, told the Daily Echo his brother had gone out to give two friends a lift home when tragedy struck.

He added: “Never in a million years did we think something like this would happen to Kevin. He was a hard-working family man and was loved by everybody.

“He and Megan were planning to get married next year and he was devoted to the children.”

Francesca, 23, added: “It has come as a terrible shock for all the family. The hardest thing has been trying to explain it to Conor - they were inseparable.”

Kevin was well known and had worked as a chef, tree surgeon and labourer.

The family are urging members of the public to attend the football event, to be held at Fawcett’s Field, Christchurch Road, New Milton on Sunday, April 30, at 11am.

Kevin’s Allstars will take on a team representing the Isabel Baker Foundation at midday. Gates open at 11am and there will be a barbecue, face painting, bouncy castle and a raffle.

They are seeking raffle prizes and also hope for more donations to their appeal.
