SHE’S known as the UK’s Queen of Swing. BBC Radio 2’s Clare Teal will be heading to Poole this summer for the launch of the 2017 Jazz By The Sea Festival.

Accompanied by her full Hollywood orchestra with seven- piece string section and conducted by world class band leader Guy Barker, Clare will explore timeless jazz classics in concert at the Lighthouse on Sunday, June 11.

Clare, who performs all over the UK with her orchestra, mini big band and trio, also presents a weekly two-hour Sunday night show on Radio 2.

This year’s Jazz By The Sea, previously known as The Bournemouth Jazz Festival, will include new venues around Bournemouth and Poole.

Festival director Gerry Clarke said: “Jazz By The Sea seeks to celebrate music and culture in Dorset, enhancing the region’s cultural profile, whilst increasing tourism and contributing to economic and cultural growth.”

The aim is to bring world class jazz musicians to Dorset and will cater for all members of the community, with performances for the elderly in care homes, as well as an event for the jazz stars of tomorrow which will engage students and young people through local schools, colleges and Bournemouth University.

Jazz by the Sea will take place in live music venues, pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, shopping centres and retail outlets from June 11-17. Tickets for Clare Teal’s concert are available from lighthousepoole.co.uk.

Clare has previously collaborated with Van Morrison, opened twice for Liza Minnelli, headlined the Bourbon Street tent at Glastonbury Festival and regularly performs at Ronnie Scott’s in London. She was voted Best British Jazz Singer in 2005, 2007 and 2015.
