A man is calling for safety measures on a busy "rat run" after a crash which left a car on its roof.

Graham Bosanquet said he wants to see Surrey Road motorists brought under control following Wednesday's incident where a BMW collided with a parked SGN truck and a Nissan Qashqai.

The incident saw the BMW 8 series overturn in the middle of the carriageway between Price of Wales Road and Ipswich Road.

Police closed the road for a couple of hours while they dealt with the incident.

Mr Bosanquet said Wednesday's incident was the last straw and he wants to see something done to tackle speeding drivers.

"It is a through road and it is a bit of a ran run," he said. "We have everything from motorbikes to huge trucks with their trailers and they all speed.

"It is a 30mph limit road and nobody adheres to that.

"Sometimes, in the middle of the night, you can hear the motorcycles absolutely flying by. It sounds like they're doing 100mph.

"I'm trying to get the council to listen to me to get either a camera or some way to slow these people down.

"Yesterday the proverbial happened and a car ended up on its roof."

Police and paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 9am.

Armed police were also in attendance assisting the traffic unit.

"I just think, because there were ambulances and how many policemen that the costs could be saved too by having a camera or slowing the darned traffic down," he said.

"For some reason this is the route all these road users take between Poole and Bournemouth."

Mr Bosanquet said he is also concerned that the issue of speeding vehicles could decrease the value of his property and those of his neighbours.

Surrey Road has become a very popular location for employees in Westbourne to park their cars, he added, adding more vehicles to an already very busy road.
