A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital following two-vehicle crash on the A31.

The incident happened between the Canford Bottom roundabout and Merley, close to where the carriageway crosses the River Stour, at 3.24pm.

It involved a motorbike and a car.

A red Volkswagen Golf, registered to a woman from Yeovil, and a motorbike registered to a man from Poole, were involved.

The male motorcyclist suffered a leg injury and has been taken to Poole Hospital for treatment. 

Police and paramedics are on the scene.

Firefighters from Redhill were also called to the scene as fuel was left across the carriageway from the motorbike.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said they received a call at 3.21pm to reports of a two-vehicle collision.

One ambulance attended the scene. 

The road was closed for several hours.
