A man has been taken to hospital after police closed the A31 over a concern for welfare.

The road was closed at Wimborne for around an hour on Tuesday while officers dealt with the concern for welfare incident.

Police were called at 6.41pm by members of the public who reported concerns for a man on the B3073 Oakley Hill bridge over the A31.

The road was closed between the Merley and Canford Bottom roundabouts while officers attended.

Diversions were put in place.

A force spokesperson said: "The man - aged in his late teens - was brought to safety at 7.50pm.

"He was uninjured but has been taken to hospital to receive the appropriate care."

The same stretch of road was closed earlier following a crash between a van and a lorry during morning rush hour.
