TWO of the great romantic symphonies by Schubert and Mendelssohn will be performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at Lighthouse in Poole next week.

Under chief conductor Kirill Karabits, the orchestra will perform the pieces in a programme of ‘Rococo and Revolution’ at Lighthouse on Wednesday, April 5 at 7.30pm.

German-Canadian cellist Johannes Moser will join the BSO as soloist for Tchaikovsky’s sublime Variations on a Rococo Theme, one of the composer’s most popular pieces.

There will also be a free ‘Meet the Music’ pre-concert talk taking place from 6.30pm in the concert hall, where guest speaker Terry Barfoot will be exploring Mendelssohn’s ‘Reformation’ Symphony before it is performed later in the evening.

Johannes Moser has been hailed by Gramophone Magazine as “one of the finest amongst the astonishing gallery of young virtuoso cellists.”

A winner of two ECHO Klassik awards and the prestigious Brahms prize, Moser has performed with the world’s leading orchestras as well as regularly working with conductors of the highest level.

He is passionate about reaching out to young audiences through regular outreach work, visiting schools, conducting masterclasses and making music with students of all ages.

His previous appearance with the BSO, when he performed Britten’s Cello Symphony, was praised by The Telegraph for his “musical intelligence” and “eloquence”.
