NO other vehicles were involved in the crash which killed Kevin Peat, an inquest has confirmed.

Mr Peat was driving in Harewood Avenue, Bournemouth, at around 3am on March 5 when his Vauxhall Astra left the road and collided with a lamp post and a tree.

At an inquest opening yesterday, coroner's officer David Tong said: "He was cut from the vehicle and treated by paramedics but died at the scene."

The inquest at Bournemouth Coroner's Court heard Mr Peat, 28, died as a result of blunt force trauma to his chest.

Dorset coroner Rachael Griffin said it had been confirmed that Dorset Police were investigating the causes of the crash and had determined that "there was no third party vehicle involved and no suspicious circumstances".

A labourer, Mr Peat was born in Ormskirk in West Lancashire, and lived in Bournemouth.

Mr Peat's family released as statement days after the crash praising a "much loved son, father, fiancé, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, grandson and friend".

The statement said: "He was truly loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed."

There were two passengers travelling in the vehicle at the time of the crash who suffered non-life threatening injuries which required hospital treatment.

The crash saw the road closed until late in the morning as crash scene investigators went to work.

Residents described hearing "tyres screeching" and a loud bang, and several rushed out to try and help.

The inquest was adjourned until August 8 for further evidence to be considered.
