THE 'Proms in the Park' returns for another summer spectacular in Bournemouth and organisers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.

Thousands of music lovers are expected to flock to the three-day music festival between August 11-13. Tickets are on sale now.

Last year marked the return of The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to Meyrick Park, due to popular demand, after a break of five years.

This year's event will feature the music of legendary composer John Williams, all the hits of Queen and another family fun day of concert and community events.

Supported by the BSO's corporate partner Investec, it promises to be one of the most popular events of the year and once again The Daily Echo is media partner for the Proms.

The weekend will kick off on Friday, August 11 with the 'John Williams at the Oscars' concert celebrating the music of the most prolific film composer of all time featuring some of his most popular soundtracks including Star Wars, Superman, ET, Harry Potter and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Many of Williams' most famous works have been composed for films by legendary director Steven Spielberg and his soundtracks have received 50 Academy Award nominations.

The following night on Saturday, August 12, ten years after making its debut at Meyrick Park, the brilliant Queen Rock and Symphonic Spectacular returns.

Featuring all the iconic rock songs performed by stars of London's West End, including Seven Seas of Rhye, Don't Stop Me Now and of course, Bohemian Rhapsody there will also be a spectacular display of fireworks, lasers, lights and a pyrotechnics son et lumière finale.

Finally on Sunday, August 13, there will be an even bigger and better Family Fun Day with musical entertainment and events for the whole family.

The day includes a matinee orchestral concert and concludes with a performance by the Inspiration Choir Southampton with the full BSO.

Hands-on activities throughout the day include a chance to create your own music and try out orchestral instruments as well as other family friendly games and activities.
