THE cycle lanes on the Twin Sails Bridge will be closed for a week from today (Monday) as part of planned safety maintenance.

A Borough of Poole spokesman said: "To keep traffic moving over the bridge it is necessary to close the cycle lanes for the duration of the works.

"Cyclists will temporarily join the main carriageway and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

The works, which finish on Friday, March 31, include servicing the hydraulic systems, software and control system checks and adjustments, replacement of missing and failed LED road studs and failed lamps as well as general checks and lubrication tasks.

John Rice, engineering manager for Borough of Poole, said: "It is important that we keep our lifting bridges operating efficiently and reliably in the long term and this means carrying out planned maintenance.

"The work has been programmed to minimise the disruption to road users especially while major improvement works are being carried out at Poole Bridge."
