A BRONZE statue worth between £4,000-£5,000 has been stolen from a house in Verwood - while the occupants were at home.

Michele Pogson said she was spending Sunday evening at her property at Does Lane with her family when thieves broke into her garden and made off with the heavy statue.

She believes at least four men would have been needed to lift the piece which is solid bronze and depicts a doe with her baby.

The incident happened at 9.05pm.

"I had it for my 40th birthday," the 53-year-old said. "I'm so angry."

The property is a private road, described as more of a dirt track, only accessible to those who live there and walkers.

"My neighbour said he saw a white pick-up reversing down the lane," she added.

No one has yet been arrested and investigations continue.
