BOSCOMBE residents were shocked to see a shed ablaze near a church this morning.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Springbourne and Redhill were called to the scene in St Clement's Road at 11.11am.

The blaze drew the attention of onlookers as it gave off a large plume of smoke. Firefighters used one main jet hose to extinguish the flames.

The shed is thought to be in the grounds of Bethany Junior School, adjacent to St Clement's Church. Fortunately no damage was caused to either building and it is not thought that anyone was injured in the blaze.

Fire investigators are working to establish the cause of the fire.

The church is the only Grade I listed building in Bournemouth apart from the Russell-Cotes Museum.
