A BOURNEMOUTH road will close from today for a week as a huge tower crane is dismantled.

Albert Road was due to be shut to traffic from 7.30am until 5pm Friday, March 3 so the crane can be removed.

All businesses will be open as usual and pedestrians will be able to use the stretch if it's safe to do so.

However, there will be no access for vehicles, and parking bays cannot be used.

Delivery vehicles can access the stretch via Old Christchurch Road, which is accessible between 10pm and 10am from Gervis Place.

The crane has been used in the construction of a block of flats.

Work on the £6.6 million project, which will comprise 83 studio apartments and two ground floor retail units over six floors, began in the summer of 2015.

The project is due to be finished later this year.

Phil Langdown, managing director of construction group Herbert H Drew and Son Ltd, said: "As our works progress, Albert Road will be subject to other planned short-term closures.

"We will notify the public about future road closures nearer those times."
