A FIRE on the roof of a building in Westover Road was spotted from the BIC.
Staff at the entertainment venue spotted flames leaping from the roof of the property at around 1.15pm.
Fire crews from Springbourne and Westbourne used an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze, which has now been extinguished.
Westover Road was closed to traffic while the incident unfolded.
Six fire engines were called to the scene.
Monitoring officer Stuart Gillion said: "We were called to a fire on the roof of a building in Westover Road.
"The call came from somebody at the BIC, who saw the fire across the Gardens.
"An occupier also called.
"Crews have found a small fire, which has been extinguished.
"The cause is still being investigated."
Scores of people stood and watched as firefighters used the aerial ladder to access the roof of the building above Whitewall Galleries.
Westover Road was re-opened by 3pm.
