PLANS to build three blocks of flats with a car lift for underground parking in Poole have been recommended for approval.

Poole planners are due to discuss the scheme, which covers four plots in Dorset Lake Avenue in the Lilliput area of the town, this afternoon.

The scheme covers numbers 34 to 40 in Dorset Lake Avenue and will see the two existing houses on the site demolished in order to make way for 23 flats over three blocks.

There are also plans to build three additional houses on the site.

Car lifts would be used to provide access to underground parking at the site from Dorset Lake Avenue.

According to a report the lifts would “remove the need for a potentially intrusive access ramp serving the basement”.

However the Dorset Police crime prevention and design advisor has raised concerns regarding the risk for “potential arguments whilst vehicles wait to use car lifts”.

Objections have also been raised by residents regarding “overdevelopment of the site”, the flats being “out of character” for the area and “loss of privacy” for neighbours.

The planning committee is due to start at 1pm today.
