TEAM manager Dan Draper insisted Wimborne would need to maintain their high performance levels to stay ahead of the chasing pack in Southern Counties South.

The Minstermen recorded a convincing 32-0 win over Frome on Saturday, with an eighth consecutive league victory preserving their three-point lead at the summit.

A brace of tries from Ashton Kerley, coupled with touch downs from Joe Bartlett, Darren Degeura, Tom Moysey, Dec Foley, saw Wimborne make light work of their opponents.

And boss Draper said: “We were very happy to keep our winning run going. We have six fixtures remaining, starting with a trip to Dorset Dockers in a fortnight.

“We will be hoping to keep our performance levels high in a bid to extend the run further as we move into the last two months of the season.”

Ollie Hamer and Steve King both returned having missed the past two games, while skipper Foley moved into the second row to replace Tom Starr.

Wimborne weathered some early pressure and opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Bartlett went over following good work by Ollie Hamer with Moysey converting.

Although Wimborne remained in the ascendency for the rest of the first half, a succession of errors and a couple of 50-50 decisions going against them saw them only fashion one further score.

However, it proved to be the best of their six tries with Ed Carter breaking from a scrum and Kerley gratefully taking a pass to score out wide on the right.

Although Frome probably felt they were still in the contest heading into the second half, their hopes were dashed when Wimborne extended their lead within 30 seconds of the restart.

Straight from kick-off, ever present Degeura charged down an attempted clearance and crossed the line unopposed to give them a 17-0 lead.

Frome continued to prove a difficult unit to break down and Wimborne were frustrated by one or two forward passes which could have resulted in further scores.

However, they always looked dangerous when they got the ball into wide areas and the bonus point try eventually came Moysey was on hand to dive over in the corner after Bartlett had made the hard yards.

Two further scores followed, a second for speedster Kerley and one for Foley, who went over after Steve King had bludgeoned his way through the Frome defence.
