A GAS leak caused the closure of a Poole road earlier this week.

The junction of Wroxham Road and Yarmouth Road was closed Thursday morning by Southern Gas Networks (SGN) after consultation with Borough of Poole (BOP) transport officials.

SGN says a "small gas escape" promoted the closure, and subsequent emergency repair work has been successfully carried out to the gas main.

"To ensure everyone's safety and due to the position of the escape, it has been necessary to close the junction while we work," said a SGN spokesman.

SGN says the road will be reopened by early next week.

"We'd like to thank everyone for their continued patience while we complete our essential repair," added the spokesman.

Meanwhile, BOP, confirmed: "A diversion was put in place along Cromer Road and Sheringham Road, and morebus were made aware of the closure as it affects the No.16 service."
