MUSICIANS, artists, street performers, and craftspeople are wanted to help transform ‘Westover Gardens’ in Bournemouth.

The owners of Picnic Park Deli, which opened last summer, have plans to revitalise the area adjacent to Westover Road into a “hub of creativity”.

It forms part of the council’s Lower Gardens ‘masterplan’, produced in 2010, to revamp the aviary and surrounding Pine Walk area.

Adam Richardson, co-owner of Picnic Park Deli, described his vision for the area as a community space.

“Our mission is to revitalise Westover Gardens. We’re in phase one of Bournemouth park team’s plan to regenerate the area.

“We’ve got a lot of plans for this space – we’re going to transform the art exhibition area as it’s looking a bit tired. It’s good when it’s full of artists, but often people will walk through once and never return.

“We want to create a hub of creativity as the area’s got such pedestrian potential, and we want to bring it back to life.

“We’re on the lookout for artists, photographers, craftspeople, graffiti artists, live singers, bands, musicians, groups, clubs, and more to collaborate with to become an all-day hangout destination within the town centre, which befits the heritage of its Pine Walk setting.”

Adam said his goal for the space was similar to Summer Live, which was introduced to Bournemouth Square in 2015 and involves live music and artists showcasing their work.

“The Westover Gardens area will be a bit different in the sense people will be able to get involved in what’s going on there. We want to create a social experience for people.”

He added: “Westover Road used to be the bee’s knees of Bournemouth, and it’s since become a bit of a sad place. We’re going to revitalise it and put some youth back into it.

“Outside of the art exhibition, it would be great to have something to look at, something that’s ‘insta worthy’. Perhaps we could have some work from AUB students on display, or 10 boards for graffiti artists to cover.”

The café is set to re-open in March. The Pine Walk art exhibition opens again in May, but Adam plans to exhibit other artists’ work prior to this.
