A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy killed in a road accident in Poole has been formally identified as Toby William Jefferson-Peters.

The Canford Heath Infant School pupil died of blunt force injury to his head and neck after a collision with a car in Canford Heath on October 12 last year, a Bournemouth inquest heard.

Coroner Sheriff Payne heard that Toby was travelling to school on foot with members of his family in the morning when the accident took place in Sherborn Crescent.

Coroner's officer Nikki Muller told the inquest: "As he and his family crossed the carriageway, he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle came to rest with Toby underneath."

She said members of the public lifted the car off of Toby and he was taken to Poole Hospital where he died later that day.

The inquest heard that Toby, who was born on September 9, 2009, lived in Poole.

HM Coroner and Dorset Police are still investigating the incident and the inquest was adjourned for a full hearing in March.

Toby was described as a "warm-natured and popular little boy" by Executive Head Teacher Kate Carter at Canford Heath Infant School. A Book of Condolence was opened at the school following Toby's death.
