STUDENT 'community wardens' have been working with Winton residents to improve relations.

The 11 wardens, from both Bournemouth University Students Union and Arts University Bournemouth, have been calling house-to-house in the Winton East ward, discussing issues including noise, parking and bins.

Also, they have been advising fellow students on accommodation difficulties.

The scheme has been praised by residents groups and councillors. Winton East councillor Pat Oakley said: "It's difficult to remember just what it was like before we had the support of the community wardens.

"Whether its supporting the permanent residents with noise nuisance issues or helping the students with their landlords, I couldn't imagine what it would be like without them.

"I have visited many university towns and it's clear to me that the wardens bring a real buzz to Bournemouth that you don't find in other towns."

Community warden Amy Tyrer said: "Many permanent residents seem sceptical at first about how much wardens can do but their views are changed when they see the impact we are having."

Currently the students are working on burglary prevention campaigns, as well as the ‘There’s No Bin Fairy!’ campaign, reminding residents to move bins off pavements once refuse has been collected.
