VANDALS are believed to have deliberately set fire to a children's climbing frame at a £180,000 skate park.

Police are investigating the incident at Bourne Valley Skate Park, which was called into officers just before 4.30pm.

The fire service were then requested to assist at the fire and sent a crew from Westbourne Fire Station who extinguished the flames using buckets of water.

According a spokesperson for the fire service waste items had been set alight on the climbing structure, which is made of rope and wood.

The local authorities were also notified about the damage to the equipment on Turbary Common.

More than 60 children and young people attended the launch of the skate park, which was paid for by the Big Local: Funding - Big Lottery Group, with the rest coming from fundraising by young people living in the community.
