A plane has been forced to make an emergency landing at Bournemouth Airport following a "technical problem".

The Thomson flight from Tenerife was seen circling the airport five times before landing.

Nearby roads were closed while the plane landed but have since reopened. . 

A spokesperson for Bournemouth Airport said: "An inbound aircraft reported a technical problem and as a safety measure they declared full emergency. 

"The plane has landed safely now and is in its stand with passengers disembarking"

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said they were called at 6.05pm and sent five fire crews to the scene.

Just before 6.30pm, a spokesperson from Dorset Police said: “We were informed that there were concerns for an aircraft due to land at the airport.

“As per our procedure, we closed off local roads while the aircraft landed.

“I can confirm that the plane landed safely and no injuries have been reported.
